Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add all of the spices and stir well. Cook for 2 minutes.
Add the sweet potato, chickpeas, tomatoes, and water and bring to a boil.
Turn the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
Stir in the coconut milk and serve.
